MaskClip

A detachable clip that turns mask vibrations into clear speech input

MaskClip prototype attached to a face mask, with the Augmented Humans 2025 presentation title.

MaskClip is a detachable clip that captures speech through vibrations on the surface of a face mask. A piezoelectric sensor picks up vibrations produced by the wearer’s voice while reducing the influence of surrounding sound.

The clip can be attached to and removed from a mask, separating the sensing device from the replaceable mask. This approach supports real-time speech input in noisy settings where masks are needed, such as medical facilities and cleanrooms.
